Bernardo Silva may have just confirmed Man City’s primary objective this season

It’s one thing winning a Treble, it's an entirely unprecedented feat to defend it. Pep Guardiola was visibly downcast when Manchester City lost the Community Shield, something he classes as a major trophy.

The defeat ruled out the almost impossible achievement of City winning every trophy going for them this season, of which there will ultimately be seven. After frustration at Wembley, there was a much happier penalty shoot-out outcome in Greece 10 days later.

City saw off Sevilla on spot kicks to hand them their first silverware of the season in the UEFA Super Cup. The next chance to clasp hands on a trophy will be in December when the Blues enter the Club World Cup.

Afterwards, the traditional four competitions will be the main focus as City try to defend their Treble - assuming they get out of their Champions League group and go for the League Cup.

It’s a mountainous task that probably will only ever be achieved on Football Manager, especially given the size of Guardiola’s squad which is arguably thinner than the one that began last season.

City will likely have to pick their battles and Bernardo Silva may have just outlined which one they will prioritise. The midfielder penned a new deal this week after months of speculation about his future.

The Portugal star - who apparently had offers from Saudi Arabia and Barcelona this summer - has won five Premier League titles but a sixth would denote a new historic achievement.

“We heard that four [titles] in a row was never done in the Premier League before, so we want to try that because it is so tough,” he said upon his renewal announcement.
