Rele Mofokeng: The playmaker from Sharpeville makes his bow on football’s grand stage

The love and support Relebohile Mofokeng has received from millions of South Africans asking for Bafana Bafana to unleash the 21-year-old at the FIFA World Cup is the fuel that drives the lad from Sharpeville.

Mofokeng finally made his debut at the global showpiece when he came on for Jayden Adams at the start of the second half in Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Czechia at Atlanta Stadium.

His teammates on the bench – from Khulumani Ndamane to Nkosinathi Sibisi – excitedly patted Mofokeng’s back as he was preparing to come on.
