Pirates confirm Bafana ace Mofokeng’s transfer deal with Belgian giants
South African giants Orlando Pirates have confirmed that an agreement has been reached with Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise for the transfer of Relebohile Mofokeng, with only a medical and personal terms still standing between the player and a move abroad.
The Soweto giants stated that negotiations between the clubs over the transfer fee and deal structure have been concluded, but the transfer is not yet complete as the player landed in Belgium less than 72 hours after Bafana Bafana exited the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“Orlando Pirates Football Club can confirm that it has reached an agreement with Royale Union Saint-Gilloise for the transfer of Relebohile Mofokeng,” the club said in a statement on Wednesday.
“While the two clubs have concluded negotiations over the transfer fee and structure of the deal, the move remains subject to the player passing a medical examination and finalising personal terms with the Belgian Pro League side,” it added.
The club also confirmed that an agreement in principle had been in place prior to the start of the World Cup, but both parties opted to delay any public announcement in order to protect the player’s focus during the tournament and avoid unnecessary distraction.
“The club can also reveal that an agreement in principle was reached before the start of the FIFA World Cup,” Pirates noted.
“Both parties made the joint decision to hold off on any public announcement until after the tournament, wanting Mofokeng to focus fully on the World Cup with Bafana Bafana without the distraction of transfer talk, and to allow the national team’s historic run to take centre stage.”
