RB Leipzig boss shares Timo Werner transfer update amid Manchester United 'interest'

RB Leipzig boss Marco Rose has confirmed former Chelsea striker Timo Werner is set to leave the club on loan this month.

The German had been widely touted as a potential stop-gap option for Manchester United during the January transfer window as Erik ten hag looks to improve his forward line. The Reds brought in Rasmus Hijlund for a fee that could rise to £72million over the summer but the Danish striker is yet to hit the ground running at Old Trafford.

Hoijlund has six goals in 23 appearances across all competitons for United so far this season, although five of those goals came during their ultimately unsuccessful Champions League campaign as the Reds crashed out of Europe completely after finishing bottom of their group.

Werner, 27, had been rumoured to be a transfer option for United to improve their forward line this month, with Anthony Martial also failing to hit top form so far this season. The former Chelsea forward is keen to play his way into Germany's Euro 2024 plans ahead of the summer having played only 386 minutes of competitve football so far this season.

But The Athletic reports Werner is set to undergo a medical at Spurs, dealing a potential blow to United. The same outlet previously reported that Werner is one of four options United are looking at.

Now, Leipzig manager Rose has wished the forward all the best ahead of his anticipated loan move to Tottenham. Spurs have moved for the former Chelsea attacker to bolster their options up front, especially with captain Son Heung-min being away at the Asian Cup with South Korea for the next month.
