Rasmus Hojlund transfer can prove Erik ten Hag and Manchester United right

There’s a new sheriff in town as far as Manchester United’s front line is concerned and his name is Rasmus Hojlund. The Danish striker is all set to complete his move from Atalanta to the Premier League giants this weekend.

United have agreed a deal worth more than £70million for the 20-year-old striker as United finally get the centre forward Erik ten Hag craves. Other names were in the frame, notably Harry Kane. But as the chances of that move dissipated, the Reds looked elsewhere.

Portuguese striker Goncalo Ramos was one name considered by United, given his exploits at the World Cup where he hit a stunning hat-trick against Switzerland. He now seems to be on his way to Paris St Germain with the Benfica striker expected to complete a move to the French giants for £69million.

And while he was heavily linked with United, Hojlund seems to be the better profile. He is two years younger than Ramos and made his move to Serie A a year ago and netted nine times for Atalanta. Ramos, meanwhile, hit 19 goals in 30 starts for Benfica.

Both players have similarities as out-and-out centre forwards. They are box strikers and poachers who prey on opposition mistakes and bury chances. Ramos saw 47 per cent of his shots hit the target last season, while Hojlund was at 64 per cent.

And the Danish striker has the added height, at 6ft 3ins , to hold the ball up while his pace will cause Premier League sides problems. Ten Hag has always held Hojlund in high regard and held video calls with him last season.
