Rasmus Hojlund is already doing what Erik ten Hag expected of him at Manchester United

Through the darkness, Rasmus Hojlund offered a ray of light.

The Manchester United striker, signed from Atalanta in August, notched his first Old Trafford goals in Tuesday night's 3-2 Champions League defeat by Galatasaray, giving supporters something to cling onto as they made their journeys home. He was a shining light at the top end of the pitch, producing an individual performance that did not deserve to be on the losing side.

After seeing what he thought was his first Old Trafford goal chalked off by VAR against Brighton & Hove Albion last month, Hojlund experienced the buzz of scoring at the Theatre of Dreams twice in United's first Champions League home game for more than 18 months. It was a night he is unlikely to ever forget.

For United as a collective, however, they would prefer to forget it. More questionable defending resulted in them losing their second group game in as many outings, meaning they now face an uphill struggle to escape Group A and progress to the last-16.

With four games left, though, they still have a chance. Nothing is over until it's over in Europe.

And with Hojlund's predatory instincts up front, United should take confidence from the fact they now have a striker who knows where the goal is. He has scored three times since arriving at the club almost two months ago and his performance against Galatasaray suggested that more goals could be on the horizon.
