Rapinoe, Putellas, Oberdorf: 5 dream transfers to the Women’s Super League

The Women’s Super League has become one of the most competitive domestic leagues in women’s football. 

The first round of results from the WSL season is evidence of this as newly promoted Liverpool stunned champions Chelsea, while Aston Villa put four past reigning League Cup holders Man City. 

It’s a competition that has attracted many of the top players in the world, with the likes of Sam Kerr, Vivianne Miedema and Magdalena Eriksson taking the league by storm. 

Yet, there’s still plenty of room for more stars to come to England and a plethora of big names who fans would no doubt love to see. 

From Champions League heroes to World Cup winners, we’ve picked out five players that we’re desperate to see play in the WSL at some point. 

Whether or not it will happen is a different story but there’s no harm in dreaming:

This one is fairly obvious. Putellas is the current holder of the Women’s Ballon d’Or and has been the standout player in women’s football for the past couple of years. 

The midfielder has already written herself into Barcelona folklore and shouts of her name permeated the Camp Nou during Barca’s memorable win against Real Madrid last year. 

Unfortunately, Putellas was injured in the build-up to Euro 2022 –– robbing English fans of the chance to see her in person. 

Having won all there is to win in Spain, perhaps Putellas would consider coming to England, where Spanish teammates Vicky Losada, Ona Batlle and Leila Ouhabi already play. 

Over the years, a number of renowned US stars have come to the WSL, including Carli Lloyd, Tobin Heath, Alex Morgan and Christen Press, to name just a few.
