Rapinoe, Mead, James: 6 players to watch in England vs USA

England face the USA at Wembley this Friday in what promises to be a blockbuster friendly. 

The Lionesses, fresh off their Euro 2022 triumph, will play the world champions for the first time since 2020. 

Sarina Wiegman’s side will return to the iconic stadium where they made history in July, but are likely to face an even tougher test on this occasion, against a US side that is unbeaten in 21 matches.

The US boast a number of world-class players, but the Lionesses have a plethora of talent of their own. 

With so many superstars in action, we’ve picked out six key players to watch at Wembley:

Mead was the star of Euro 2022 – scoring six goals, on course to winning the Golden Boot and the Player of the Tournament. 

The Arsenal winger has scored more goals than any other England player since Wiegman took over and is no doubt a nailed-on starter against Vlatko Andonovski’s side.        

James has impressed for Chelsea so far this season and her form saw her rewarded with her first England cap in September. 

The skilful youngster is still waiting for her first international start, and while it may be too soon for Wiegman to throw her straight in against the US –– expect her to make an impact from the bench at the very least. 

Walsh commanded the midfield during the Euros and was named the Player of the Match in the final. 

Her exceptional performances attracted the interest of Barcelona, who signed the English star for a reported world-record fee this summer. 

If Walsh can get the upper hand against her midfield counterparts on Friday, then it could be advantage England. 

While the US squad is filled with World Cup winners and experienced veterans, Smith is one of the most exciting
