Raphael Varane names two reasons he can't wait to see Andre Onana at Manchester United

Raphael Varane admits he "can't wait" to play alongside new signing Andre Onana and has praised the goalkeeper's confidence in possession.

Onana could make his first appearance for United on Saturday when they face Arsenal at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The 27-year-old flew out to the US on Thursday afternoon, following the agreement of a £47.72million fee with Inter Milan.

Manager Erik ten Hag identified Onana, who he worked with at Ajax, as his prime target to replace David de Gea upon the expiration of the Spaniard's contract. The Dutchman became visibly frustrated by De Gea's lack of quality on the ball last season and eventually lost patience.

Onana is expected to ease those frustrations, having proven himself as one of the most comfortable goalkeepers in possession across Europe. And Varane can't wait to play in front of the new No.1.

"He [Onana] arrives with his qualities," Varane said. "He is very good with the ball, he is comfortable with the ball. He brings a lot of confidence to the defence. Can't wait to play with him."

Having trained with his new teammates on Friday, Onana could be in line for a start against Arsenal. The Cameroonian will hope for an early chance to gel with his new defensive unit and could feature behind Ten Hag's first-choice back four.
