How Manchester United should line up vs Lens in pre-season friendly fixture

Manchester United play their penultimate pre-season friendly against RC Lens at Old Trafford on Saturday.

United played Arsenal, Wrexham, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund on their recent tour of the USA and they're set to play Lens and Athletic Bilbao on consecutive days this weekend as the final touches for the season are made.

The squads available for the games will consist of two strong first-teams supplemented by players from the academy and supporters will be hoping to see new signings Mason Mount and Andre Onana feature against Lens.

It should be a dress rehearsal for the opening match of the Premier League season, with as much rest as possible afterwards ahead of the opener against Wolves.

Onana starts in goal, and it should be a full-strength selection in defence if possible, with Dalot currently winning the battle to be the starting right-back.

United need to build connections as much as fitness, and it would be great to see their strongest midfield from the start, with changes made after the hour mark.

The forward three will depend on who is available, but it seems crucial that Sancho gets another chance as he looks to build his confidence ahead of competitive matches.

Lens impressively finished second in Ligue 1 last season and Ten Hag might prioritise this match for his strongest line-up, but with a game against Athletic Bilbao in Dublin tomorrow, I'd play mostly the second string here.
