Rangers Women nominated for 'Best Club of the Year' as they compete with English big guns for prized award

Rangers have been nominated for Best Club at the Women's Football Awards.

The ceremony will take place on May 25th in London as they compete with some of England's biggest clubs for the prize; Aston Villa, Brighton and Hove Albion, Southampton, Everton, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Leeds United and Manchester City.

This prestigious award is a celebration of the clubs who 'have shown commitment and application to improving the landscape of football for women, while investing and working to improve participation and inclusion in the game.' Rangers are currently trying to keep their hopes of winning SWPL 1 alive as Glasgow City lead the way, having won the top flight of women's football last season. Their hopes of doing so were dashed though by a 1-1 draw with Celtic, after which assistant Craig McPherson apologised for appearing to headbutt Hoops boss Fran Alonso.

A 2-0 win over Hibs at the weekend saw Rangers bounce back from that late equaliser though. Malky Thomson's side have also competed in the Champions League and have a Scottish Cup semi-final to look forward to at Hampden, where they will take on Motherwell for a place in the showpiece, alongside the Sky Sports Cup final they won last December.
