Rangers vs Aberdeen LIVE as Stevie Smith and Scott Anderson name starting XI's for Youth Cup Final at Hampden

It's the biggest day in the youth football calendar as Rangers take on Aberdeen at the national stadium tonight.

Last season's Youth Cup Final was a classic as the Light Blues went down 6-5 to rivals Celtic - something they're be determined to avenge at Hampden this evening and reclaim the trophy they last lifted when they beat Hearts 2022. David McCallum will have his team hungry for more silverware when the Dons come to town.

Aberdeen have glory of their own in their sights though as they return to this stage of the tournament for the first time since 2018. They lost to Hibs then and haven't won since 2001 - a run they are desperate to bring to an end sooner rather than later.

The Dons thumped Ayr United 7-2 to make the final while Rangers prevented a New Firm finale when they beat Dundee United on penalties.

Scott Anderson is aiming to put Aberdeen's name on the Scottish Youth Cup for the fourth time.

They've not won the trophy since 2001 as they bid to end a 23-year wait for the crown with the boss delivering his views to Red TV ahead of the trip to Hampden.

This is an important competition for the club, it always has been, but we’ve not won it in more than 20 years now. We were in the final in 2020 against Kilmarnock but sadly that game did not take place due to COVID. Previous to that, it was an U20 team who played Hibernian in the final in 2018. We are in a final again and we are looking forward to the occasion, but we must make sure that we play the game as it is. We’ve had strong groups here in the past, but right from the start, we felt that this group here had a real chance of having a really strong season.
