Ludvig Aberg to join Ryder Cup heroes Viktor Hovland and Tommy Fleetwood at Genesis Scottish Open

Swede sensation Ludvig Aberg will join European Ryder Cup-winning team-mates Viktor Hovland and Tommy Fleetwood at the Genesis Scottish Open.

The trio are heading back to the Renaissance Club for July’s spectacular. Rome heroes Rory McIlroy, who is defending the title, Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Rose had already declared their intentions for East Lothian. Now Aberg, Hovland and Fleetwood have confirmed their participation in the showpiece event prior to The Open at Royal Troon the following week.

Aberg returns to Scotland’s national open in a rich vein of form following a runner-up finish on his Major debut at The Masters. The Swede played at Renaissance for the first time amid a remarkable 2023 season, in which he claimed maiden wins on the DP World Tour and PGA Tour either side of his history-making Ryder Cup appearance in Italy.

Aberg said: “I’ve had a memorable year since I last played this event and I’m aiming to keep that form going into the summer in Scotland. The Rolex Series tournaments are always special to play in and I’m looking forward to getting back to Renaissance Club and playing in front of the Scottish fans.”

Hovland was his foursomes partner at Marco Simone and returns to Scotland seeking a second Rolex Series victory to add to his triumph in Dubai in 2022. The Norwegian said: “I’ve played the Genesis Scottish Open a couple of times now and it’s always a fun week. It’s a great time to have the DP World Tour and PGA Tour guys coming together in the week before The Open.”

Fleetwood, who enjoyed a second Ryder Cup triumph alongside Aberg and Hovland, claimed his seventh DP World Tour title at the Dubai Invitational in January. The popular Englishman continued that form into the first Major of the year,
