Rangers: Van Bronckhorst handed 'frustrating situation' at Ibrox

Rangers didn’t make enough signings in the recent transfer window, according to insider Dean Jones.

Seven new faces arrived at Ibrox this summer, but the Glasgow giants spent less than £15m, with three of those costing nothing.

Giovanni Van Bronckhorst opted to bolster his defensive options with the signings of Ridvan Yilmaz and John Souttar, who arrived from Besiktas and Hearts, while Ben Davies came in on loan from Liverpool after failing to make a single first-team appearance for the Reds.

Moving forward, Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Malik Tillman has been recruited to provide competition and cover at the top end of the pitch, as has ex-Derby County man Tom Lawrence, who has enjoyed a fine start to his Gers career prior to his recent injury.

Rabbi Matondo and Antonio Colak completed the Dutchman’s summer business, although they’ve been unable to prevent Rangers from slipping five points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race.

That’s mainly due to Saturday’s 4-0 Old Firm defeat, where none of Van Bronckhorst’s new signings ended the game on the pitch, which spoke volumes about their current squad.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I don’t think they did do quite enough, and I think it’s always going to be tough when you watch what Celtic did.

“I think when you consider the Champions League money, that’s probably what’s most frustrating. On deadline day, I saw some Rangers fans – it seemed to be split half – that were actually content with where they were at and thought that having a settled squad might be ok.”
