SPFL in vote of confidence amid Rangers feud as under-fire league bosses claim vindication over probe

Under-fire league bosses were given a vote of confidence last night in the latest twist of their ongoing feud with Rangers.

The Ibrox club demanded a major independent review to probe the SPFL’s governance following a legal victory in the bitter dispute over title sponsors’ Cinch. And, after a three month long fact finding mission by auditors Henderson and Loggie, the results have been greeted as a vindication of chief executive Neil Doncaster and chairman Murdoch MacLennan.

MacLennan said he was “reassured, but not complacent” after studying a draft of the findings. The SPFL say the investigation included ‘Detailed questionnaires and interviews with 15 stakeholders, including senior executive team members, non-executive directors, and other senior figures in the game,’. And they have revealed that a raft of recommendations will now be considered by MacLennan and his board.

MacLennan said: “This has been an extremely valuable and constructive exercise, and I am grateful to Karyn McCluskey and the 15 participants for their considerable time and effort in helping to produce such a comprehensive and detailed draft report.

“Having reviewed the draft report in detail, I am reassured but not complacent. “Henderson Loggie have made a number of recommendations to further strengthen SPFL governance.

“We will now take time to consider Henderson Loggie’s detailed recommendations before bringing suggested changes back to the 42 SPFL Member Clubs for their consideration.
