Rangers transfer news latest as Goncalo Borges offer 'revealed' and Wayne Rooney outlines clear Morgan Whittaker stance

Rangers’ offer to Porto for winger Goncalo Borges was reportedly £5million for the star who has a £42MILLION release clause.

News from Portugal emerged on Sunday that both the Ibrox side and French outfit Strasbourg had bids for the 23-year-old booted out. Borges came through the ranks at the Dragao Stadium and has been a standout in pre-season for Vitor Bruno’s side. And it has now been claimed by Portuguese outlet Recordthat Rangers’ offer was £5m with Strasbourg offering around £1m less.

Porto president and former boss Andre Villas-Boas, who also managed Chelsea and Marseille, rejected the bids and Ojogo state that is because the offers “didn’t exceed €10m” but add that: “talks may continue in the coming days, but for now, the two clubs are far from meeting the blue and whites' expectations. Goncalo's release clause, it should be noted, is 50 million euros.”

Another Rangers wing target, Morgan Whittaker, won’t be leaving Plymouth Argyle any time soon according to new Pilgrims boss Wayne Rooney. Record Sport revealed the ex-Swansea man, who Michael Beale wanted when he was in charge at Ibrox, is back on the Light Blues radar.

Whittaker came on during a pre-season friendly win over Torquay and Rooney said to the media on speculation surrounding both Whittaker and team-mate Michael Cooper: "I haven't had anything since I spoke to you last Saturday (after the 5-1 win at Cheltenham Town). They are two very important players. I think today was the first time Coops has worn the armband as well. I didn't know that, he has just told me after the game. Nothing has changed. They are Argyle players and I'm very confident that will remain for the rest of this season.”
