Rangers transfer juggernaut has come to grinding halt and Todd Cantwell will pay the price for ref con job - Hotline

Rangers are close to taking their summer recruitment to nine but not all is fine according to the Hotline. Wednesday’s 3-1 friendly defeat to Olympiacos at Ibrox threw the spotlight on new signings Abdallah Sima, Cyriel Dessers, Kieran Dowell and Sam Lammers.

But even with Jose Cifuentes and Danilo close to joining them, the pre-season action so far has left many unimpressed and calling for further additions, Jimmy Mac, Glasgow, said: “Sima is like Antonio Colak in one sense - he runs towards players and never puts in a tackle. Lammers, Todd Cantwell and John Souttar were the only borderline pass marks on Wednesday.

Michael Beale and his backroom staff need to get the players practicing quick, one-touch passing in training games. Beale was the quickest at Rangers last night - he couldn't get up the tunnel fast enough and no one could blame him. The Gers were awful to say the least.”

Tony Birney emailed: “So the Rangers juggernaut comes to a grinding halt hopefully silencing the ‘what we're going to do next season’ brigade for five minutes! Cantwell clearly conned ref Stevie McLean with the blatant dive for the usual penalty but may pay the price long term when refs and McLean see this for what it was, cheating. Or am I being too optimistic?”

Gerard Kelly emailed: “Don’t think there will be a lot of Rangers fans on here singing and saying we are stronger now after that performance. As for the penalty that was a 10/10 for the dive from Cantwell. Tom Daley would have been proud of that.”

Peter McBryan, Glasgow, agreed saying: “Cantwell diving for a penalty during a friendly and MacLean keeps his card in his pocket! It seems like next season is going to continue just like it did last season.”
