Rangers to face Man United in glamour friendly at Murrayfield

Rangers will face English Premier League giants Manchester United in a summer glamour friendly at Murrayfield.

We're coming into the home straight of the league season and Philippe Clement and his team have their eyes locked on making it a successful one with a potential Treble in the offing. But behind the scenes plans are being made for the summer schedule with rivals Celtic announcing box office showdowns with Chelsea and Manchester City.

So far Gers are yet to announce plans for a pre-season tour but they'll have some glitz and glamour a bit closer to home with Erik ten Hag (or possibly Gareth Southgate, if recent reports are to be believed) bringing his United team up north for the second year running. They face Rangers at Murrayfield on Saturday, July 20, 2024.

It's the first time the two teams will have faced since a Champions League tie in 2010 which United won 1-0 through a Wayne Rooney goal. Lee McCulloch and Wes Brown both played that day and McCulloch said: “I remember it like it was yesterday, playing United in 2010. While the result didn’t go the way we wanted, it was a brilliant occasion, and a powerful representation of the strength of both sides as powerhouses in their respective nations.

“Rangers are, once again, back fighting at the top of the Scottish Premiership and Manchester United remain one of the leading sides in global football. Scottish Gas Murrayfield, the home of Scottish rugby, is one of the most magical sporting venues in the world, so it seems only fitting to have such a thrilling fixture hosted there.”
