Rangers star breaks silence over Ibrox exile as fans told their key role for a team who won't be fazed

Ross McCausland reckons Rangers can count on their fans to go the distance no matter where Philippe Clement’s side are forced to play during their Ibrox exile, writesAndy Newport in Venlo.

Red-faced Gers chiefs are still scrambling to arrange an alternative venue amid fears they could be locked out of their Govan home until October. Record Sport revealed that moving the big Belgian’s squad to Hampden is the preferred option, with further crisis talks planned this week. With an agreement yet to be struck, however, chairman John Bennett and his board are also exploring the possibility of staging the club’s home games 50 miles east at Murrayfield.

The shambolic affair is the last thing Clement and his new-look squad need as they prepare for a huge opening month of the season, which could have major ramifications for their Premiership and Champions League ambitions. It’s also a major inconvenience to the club’s 47,000 season-ticket holders.

But McCausland is certain they will put frustrations with the board and their construction work cock-up to one side while they focus on backing Clement’s players. Speaking from the squad’s Dutch training camp, the Northern Ireland winger said: “Of course that is something that is out of our hands.

“But I can 100 per cent back that the Rangers fans will be wherever we are going to play our games. They never let us down. Ever. I am 100 per cent certain they are going to be wherever we are. I don’t think that will affect us. It is something that is out of our hands and it is something that as players, there is nothing we can do about it. We are just going to focus wherever we are and we just have to do the business and keep working hard, like we are now.”
