Rangers fear the worst over John Lundstram injury as Philippe Clement frustrated after star 'kicked off the pitch'

Philipe Clement was frustrated after John Lundstram was 'kicked off the pitch' against St Johnstone - and admits it 'doesn't look the best' for his key midfielder.

Lundstram was on the wrong end of a poor challenge from Diallang Jaiyesimi in the first half of Rangers' routine 2-0 win over Craig Levein's men. He was initially booked but after a VAR review, on-field ref Alan Muir upgraded it to a red and sent Jaiyesimi for an early bath.

Hurting Lundstram played on until the half-time break but was seen receiving medical treatment before the interval and was replaced by Dujon Sterling. It's another injury setback for Clement, who also lost Kemar Roofe to a suspected hamstring problem early on, and he was frustrated after he was 'kicked off the pitch' after the game.

He said on BBC Sportsound: "VAR is there to look and help the referee. I know because I am referee every day (at training), it is sometimes difficult to see everything. The bad thing is that, again, a player is kicked off the pitch. We have to make a good assessment tomorrow and the day after.

"At first sight it doesn't look good. I hope I can recover him before the winter break but it doesn't look (positive).

When asked if it was definitely Jaiyesimi's tackle that caused it, he said: "The injury was from the red card, clearly. Because of that tackle."

Clement was also 'disappointed' after Roofe's latest injury as he added: "Kemar is very disappointed because he was coming back and doing well. That's why I let him start. He felt good and ready to start so it's disappointing that he felt something again but we'll look at that tomorrow."
