Rangers face potential exit 'disaster' at Ibrox this summer

Rangers could be on the verge of ‘a disaster’ this summer if they lose several first-team players on free transfers, according to senior Gers journalist Chris Jack.

The Glasgow giants are currently involved in an enthralling title race and are set to face Red Star Belgrade in the last-16 of the Europa League but are facing a pivotal few months.

Since replacing Steven Gerrard back in November, new manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has overseen a mixed spell in the Ibrox dugout.

A famous 6-4 aggregate victory over Borussia Dortmund in Europe has been marred by an Old Firm derby defeat at the hands of Celtic and several disappointing draws.

However, Rangers are also facing several potential off-the-field issues with a handful of senior players approaching the end of their current contracts.

The likes of Connor Goldson, Scott Arfield, Steven Davis, Leon Balogun and Allan McGregor have all entered the final six months of their existing deals, posing a potential problem for Van Bronckhorst.

It means the Dutch tactician could lose the core of Rangers’ title-winning side from last term in what will already be a transitional summer window for the reigning champions.

While a natural replacement for Goldson has already been secured via the pre-contract agreement with Hearts centre-back John Souttar, the departures of the other senior stars would leave a significant dent in Rangers’ first-team squad.
