Rangers: 'Every chance' 40-cap key man will leave Ibrox this summer

Rangers could look to cash-in on Glen Kamara if the Ibrox hierarchy succeed in agreeing fresh terms with a host of stars approaching the end of their respective deals, according to the Glasgow Times and Herald’s Gers reporter Chris Jack.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side have gone into the international break sitting three points adrift of arch-rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race, but it appears there is plenty of hard work to come off the pitch as well as on it.

Kamara joined Rangers from Dundee in January 2019, with the switch being brought forward after he had initially signed a pre-contract agreement with the Glasgow giants.

He has gone on to make 148 appearances for the Gers and played a key role as they won their first Scottish Premiership crown in a decade last season.

Kamara’s importance to Rangers came to the fore when they attempted to fight off interest in the midfielder by tying him down to a new deal until the summer of 2025 last September.

But that did not stop the 40-cap Finland international gaining interest during the January transfer window as, according to Daily Record via BirminghamLive, Aston Villa were quoted a price tag of £15million when Steven Gerrard’s looked to be reunited with Kamara south of the border.

The 26-year-old has also been on the radar of Everton, Watford, Southampton, Burnley and Newcastle United in recent months.

Jack believes Rangers are still working around the clock to convince some of their stars to commit their long-term future to the club.

If the Gers succeed, the reporter feels Kamara could be allowed to move onto pastures new when the transfer window reopens.
