Rangers donate matchday food to homeless charity as club in classy gesture after Ross County call off

Rangers have donated unused food to the Simon Community Scotland charity after their fixture against Ross County at Ibrox was postponed.

The Light Blues were gearing up to face the Staggies in the festive midweek Scottish Premiership clash but the weather forced it into being called off, with the Highlanders enduring hellish travel conditions caused by Storm Gerit which wreaked chaos up and down the country.

And with Rangers expecting a bumper crowd, including thousands of corporate hospitality guests, Ibrox chiefs, along with club caterers Levy, made the big-hearted gesture to donate food to charity. Simon Community Scotland is a homeless charity with offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh, North Lanarkshire and Perth.

Rangers CEO, James Bisgrove, commented: “While of course, everyone at Rangers was hoping for tonight’s match to go ahead, we were very keen to support Glasgow’s homeless community with a donation of some of the unused food from our sold-out hospitality suites and kiosks. We are extremely proud of our community roots at Rangers, and we felt this was the least we could do, particularly at this time of year. I’d like to thank our partners, Levy, for their excellent support in making this possible.”

The SPFL will now have to reschedule the Rangers vs Ross County fixture. Philippe Clement’s side are next in action on Saturday when they take on fierce rivals Celtic at Parkhead in the second Old Firm derby of the season.
