Ramsgate manager Ben Smith thanks fans for their ‘incredible’ support and explains how it helps his side as they look to climb the Isthmian Premier table
Manager Ben Smith has hailed Ramsgate fans for their “incredible” support at the weekend.
About 200 made their way to Billericay, where injury-hit Rams were cruelly denied a first away win of the Isthmian Premier season.
They led 2-0 through Alfie Paxman and Mitchell May but ex-Rams striker Joe Taylor cut the gap and Ryan Scott scored an injury-time equaliser, to leave them in 19th place.
It was harsh on the visitors but supporters could see how much Smith’s side, who lost captain TJ Jadama to an ankle injury after half an hour, had put into the game.
Jadama pulled up in the warm-up but was determined to help as much as he could, Ryan Kingsford also shouldn’t have started, while Aaron Barnes played on through a knock.
With their fans’ continued backing and as the likes of Lewis Gard and Donvieve Jones regain fitness, the manager is convinced Ramsgate will start to get the results their performances deserve.
“The away support was incredible - incredible,” said Smith.
“The noise they made throughout the game and at the final whistle, that’s a support that’s really buying into the group, and I can’t thank them enough.
“That’s the type of support you’d get at higher levels and it’s nothing but positive energy. The players feed off that.
“Anyone that went and watched Ramsgate on Saturday will have come home saying those lads gave everything.
“We want more than that, make no bones about that, but sometimes when things aren’t going your way, that’s when players start looking at each other and you get the blame game and the supporters get disgruntled.
“But there was none of that at all. Everyone in that dressing room understands the moment we’re going through and we’ll come through it together.
