Rail services between Chester and Stockport cancelled after person hit by train

Travellers are facing delays and cancellations on rail services between Chester and Stockport this afternoon after a person was hit by a train.

Emergency services are understood to be dealing with the incident, with no trains currently running between the two stations. The British Transport Police did not confirm the condition of the person.

Delays are likely to continue into the evening, with expected disruption until 7pm. Customers are able to use their tickets on alternative transport.

In a statement on their website, National Rail said: "Emergency services dealing with an incident between Chester and Stockport means trains running between these stations may be delayed by up to 60 minutes or cancelled."

In a tweet, they said: "Ticket acceptance is in place with Transport for Wales between Chester and Warrington Bank Quay and on the replacement bus between Warrington Bank Quay and Manchester Piccadilly.

"Tickets will be accepted on Metrolink between Altrincham and Manchester Piccadilly."
