Vaclav Cerny admits Rangers completely outclassed by Celtic in 'brutal' derby take that’s at odds with Clement’s

Vaclav Cerny has admitted Rangers WERE "outclassed" by Celtic in their Old Firm derby defeat at Parkhead – despite manager Philippe Clement's denial a huge gulf was evident.

The on loan Wolfsburg winger was a starter for Clement's side on Sunday, but made little impact in the match as the Hoops cruised to a 3-0 win. Cerny is currently preparing for his nation's Nations League games with the Czech Republic facing Georgie and Ukraine in their group. And he admitted he was taken aback by the passion of his first Old Firm encounter and had no complaints about the outcome.

That comes despite Clement trotting out stats post match – later recited by Rangers legend Graeme Souness – in a bid to suggest otherwise. Cerny said: "We didn't do well at all, they outclassed us in everything. Now we have to catch them at any cost, that's our main goal.

"I haven't seen such a rivalry for a long time. Of course, I never played for Sparta Prague or Slavia Prague in their derby. But compared with our main derby it is far bigger and more brutal."

However, despite that defeat, 26-year-old Cerny insists he can't wait for a crack at the Europa League with Rangers due to face English giants Manchester United and Spurs in their fixtures, after admitting he was disappointed Rangers crashed out of the Champions League.

He said: "I am happy there at Rangers so far. I am playing in Europe which I wouldn't have got at Wolfsburg. And my own personal situation on the pitch is good too which is what I wanted.

"We were disappointed to go out of the Champions League because it was hugely affected by the meaningless red card we got. It was a shame we lost it in such a way. At least we were able to go straight to the Europa League after that.
