Rabbi Matondo in Rangers hammer blow as Wales winger out for SIX weeks to join growing Ibrox injury list

Rabbi Matondo has been ruled out for six weeks with a knee injury in yet another major Rangers injury blow.

Michael Beale’s assistant Neil Banfield confirmed the news the Wales winger will be sidelined for that lengthy spell after he went off injured during Sunday’s 1-0 win over Motherwell, with the Ibrox boss admitting at the time it didn’t look good. And now ahead of Wednesday’s Viaplay Cup quarter final tie against Livingston, the injury problems are mounting at Ibrox with the likes of Todd Cantwell, Nico Raskin and Danilo all out for lengthy periods.

But Banfield admits the pressure is something they are used to. He said: “Rabbi looks like (he will be out) six weeks with his knee. With injuries, we know we have built a strong squad and it is for players to step up and help send us to Hampden Park. At such a big club as Rangers we expect scrutiny. We will always have bumps along the way but it is up to us to continue to push and prepare the team.

Michael Beale and the 48 Rangers days fraught with danger as 11 game gauntlet set to make or break boss

“It is a three-game week and we need to be ready and prepared for the next match. We want to win again and be at Hampden Park for the semi-final. The history of Rangers is about winning trophies, that is always the focus at this club is to focus on winning the next trophy."

Rangers will still be without Kieran Dowell, Cantwell (both knee), Tom Lawrence, Raskin (both calf) and Danilo (fractured cheekbone) for the clash with Livingston.
