‘Quite interesting’ - West Ham may make zero cost move for once-£50m ‘talisman’, says reporter

Journalist Paul Brown has made a West Ham United transfer claim involving Burnley defender and soon-to-be free agent James Tarkowski.

The Clarets haven’t agreed an extension for their mainstay defender with Tarkowski’s contract currently set to run out this year, meaning he can leave Turf Moor as a free agent in the summer.

This comes as West Ham and manager David Moyes set their sights on signing a central defender alongside the possible additions of a new midfielder and striker to back-up Michail Antonio (The Times).

The Irons’ recent injury crisis at centre-back has backed West Ham’s need to bolster the position with major signings with Brown, speaking to GiveMeSport, now making a promising claim.

In a GMS interview, The Daily Star reporter says West Ham could go in for Tarkowski this summer – marking him out as a more ideal target for Moyes than the recently-linked Michael Keane.

He explained: “What happens at the bottom could be quite interesting because I wouldn’t be surprised if West Ham go back in for Tarkowski, because he’s more of a left-sided centre-back than Michael Keane.”

Signing Tarkowski at zero initial transfer cost would be quite a snip for Moyes going by his Premier League pedigree.

Once valued at his £50 million release clause by Burnley (The Daily Mail), the Lancashire side are now in no position to demand any fee as the summer window looms and the end of Tarkowski’s deal.

As explained by pundit Noel Whelan recently, the 29-year-old has been a ‘talisman’ and ‘real leader’ for Burnley over many seasons and signing him for fee should at the very least be considered by West Ham and GSB.
