Queen's Park 1 Hamilton Accies 2: Rankin happy to see side pounce on Spiders' Rangers hangover to end losing streak
Hamilton Accies boss John Rankin praised his players for pouncing on Queen's Park's Rangers hangover with a 'huge' three points in their Championship survival bid.
Accies ended a run of four straight defeats with a 2-1 triumph at Hampden, less than a week after Spiders stunned the Gers with a Scottish Cup shock for the ages.
Rankin felt their rivals would struggle to get up for the game after the huge high at Ibrox and was delighted to see his players make a fast start that ultimately earned the points.
Scott Robinson took just five minutes into his debut to make an impact following his move from Partick Thistle, grabbing the opener with a finish from close range.
And in 13 minutes they doubled their lead when January signing Ricki Lamie also grabbed his first for the club.
Spiders made Accies sweat for the points after Sean Welsh's strike pulled one back on the hour mark, but the visitors held out for their first league win at Hampden since 1983.
It takes Accies out of the relegation play-off spot and Rankin - who was the subject of fan chants looking for him to be sacked last week - said: "It is a huge three points. We started the game really well. We said to the players before we started that we really needed to be on the front foot.
"Obviously, Queen's Park came in off the back of a really good result last week and a really good performance. Sometimes when you beat the Old Firm and you get that adrenaline rush, it becomes hard to get up for the next game and I thought we had to start on the front foot, and we did that.
"We knew Queen's Park would be on top in certain parts of the second half, but that's where we need to compose ourselves a bit more and be confident on the ball.
