LIVE Emergency services seal-off city centre restaurant with forensics seen inside - updates

A Manchester restaurant has been taped off by police as officers investigate a burglary.

Officers are in attendance at Bitebox, on Great Ancoats Street, this morning (March 5).

Forensics investigators have been in searching the scene for evidence.

Images from the scene show a the entrance to the restaurant has been cordoned off by Greater Manchester Police.

The front door appears to have been smashed, with broken glass also seen on the ground.

An eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News: "There was one police car there on my way to the gym at around 8am but I didn't notice the cordon.

"CSI were there inside the restaurant and a cordon while I was on the way back just now."

A GMP spokesperson said: "We received a report of a business burglary on Great Ancoats Street at around 1am this morning (Wednesday, March 5 2025).

"No arrests have been made at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident 74 of March 5, 2025."

The restaurant is on the ground floor of Islington Wharf, a high-rise apartment block by the Ashton Canal.

It is next to a section of footpath which is currently closed off, with signs telling pedestrians to avoid the area.

Businesses close to Bitebox have reacted to the burglary this morning.

Ann, who has worked at the House of Tinu hair salon for nine years, said:

"It really surprised me. I’m gonna go and check on them later.

"Everyone gets along on this row - we all know each other."

Shattered glass can be seen on the ground outside the shop.
