QPR dream back on for striker after injury woe

Kyle Doherty has revealed his fractured metatarsal hasn't scuppered his hopes of a second trial at English Championship giants QPR.

The Albion Rovers striker has been out for two months and spent much of that time with his foot in a moon boot, but he made his Rovers return in Saturday's 1-0 defeat at home to Cowdenbeath as he aims to get back to full fitness.

The injury came at a nightmare time for the 20-year-old as he was set to go back down to London having impressed on trial with QPR in November.

But his setback hasn't killed off his hopes of a dream move.

He told Lanarkshire Live Sport : "I'm going back down to QPR at some point this month. I just need to arrange a date with them, but my agent is dealing with that side of things and I'm concentrating on doing my best for Albion.

"QPR have been really good with me about the injury and they were keen to get me back down when the injury had healed up.

"I've spoken to them and it's all good.

"They said the injury was unfortunate but it wasn't going to jeopardise my opportunity.

"Although I've not been training or playing for a while, I know in my mind I know I can go and do well.

"I don't what's going to happen in the future but hopefully I will be going somewhere full-time and making football my main career now."

Doherty has netted seven goals in 23 appearances for Rovers this season and his return will be welcomed by boss Brian Reid, with the club sitting ninth in League Two.

And the striker added: "Brian wasn't pleased that I was injured because he really wanted me in the team, but he says these things happen and I will bounce back from it.

"I'm focusing on Albion Rovers right now and I want to do as well as I can.
