Pundit says Huddersfield Town are in 'false position' in Championship promotion hunt

Sky Sports pundit Jobi McAnuff expects the Terriers to drop out of the automatic promotion places after they rose to second in the Championship table over the weekend.

Huddersfield Town overtook Bournemouth by beating Peterborough United 3-0 on Friday night before the Cherries squandered their lead to lose away to Preston North End on Saturday afternoon.

That keeps Carlos Corberan's side in the automatic promotion places for now - but with Bournemouth still just a point back and holding four games in hand on Town, the south coast side are being widely tipped to restore their advantage in the promotion hunt.

McAnuff is among those doing so. When asked if he thought the top two was already sewn up by Scott Parker's side alongside league leaders Fulham, McAnuff responded: "Yeah I do.

"I think Huddersfield are in a bit of a false position in terms of being second in the table. They have been on an absolutely unbelievable run and they were probably one that, two months ago, I might have felt they would fall off.

"They have defied everyone so far, whether they can carry that on or not we will see. But they don't seem to be going away. What we can be sure of is that it's going to be a very exciting run-in as ever."

Fellow pundit Michael Dawson agrees that the race for the playoff remains wide open, saying: "For me it's going to be Fulham and Bournemouth in the top two, and then you're probably looking from Blackburn, QPR, Forest, Middlesbrough - you know what, even down to Coventry

"Every one of them is going to be going for it, but Forest are coming in and Blackburn are coming out (of the top six)."

Town are currently odds-on fourth-favourites for a top six finish, behind Bournemouth, Sheffield United and Blackburn.
