Carlos Corberan says international break is important for his Huddersfield Town ambitions

Huddersfield Town come into the international break off the back of a tough two weeks in which they have been knocked out of the FA Cup, conceded twice at West Brom when victory looked certain, and then lost to Millwall and Bournemouth. During Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to the Cherries Town looked noticeably fatigued.

The international break has come at the right time for the Terriers who need a chance to catch their breath. Right now they are still one of only six teams in the league to have fulfilled every fixture to date. Recently the effort of their tough run has told on the tight group of players Town head coach Carlos Corberan likes to use.

With their next fixture not till the first of April Corberan feels it’s important to utilise this break as best as they can. The run in will define Town’s season, a place in the Play-Offs just reward for clever recruitment in the summer and the effort that has seen them as outsiders in the race for second at one point.

That particular race is run now with Bournemouth very unlikely to suffer what equates to a six-game swing in Town’s favour. Corberan is pleased to have this chance to regroup now before they push to consolidate that place in the top six before the season’s end.

“Yes, it’s very necessary to have this moment in the league, this break, to stop and recover and to keep growing as a team,” Corberan said when asked if the break was coming at the right time for him and his team, “it’s very important because when you are playing many games in a row you need some rest and a chance to recharge some energy, and to have a little bit of time to work with the team rather than to prepare for one game ahead.”

Corberan’s meticulous preparation has served Town brilliantly this season
