Pundit explains Declan Rice change that could benefit next Manchester United manager

Manchester United target Declan Rice will never give any manager sleepless nights because of a lack of commitment.

That's the verdict of Tim Sherwood, who has outlined the change in Rice's game that has seen him become one of the hottest properties in Europe.

After missing out on a top-level defensive midfielder last summer, key figures in the Old Trafford boardroom still see the West Ham man as their priority target moving forward.

That's despite concerns the Hammers might hold United or other would-be suitors to ransom over a fee.

So what is it about Rice that would make a £100million deal seem like solid business?

Speaking to Premier League Productions, pundit Sherwood said: "Declan is growing into this midfield role.

"When he was a kid coming through, everyone thought he would be a centre-back, but he's gone into that midfield area as a six. Now he's almost there as a number eight.

"He sees the holes [between opposition players] and he dribbles through them.

"He takes the ball and he knows when to release the ball. He gives it to his teammates when they want it and not when he's finished with it. He's got no self-indulgence. He's a team player.

Who should United sign this summer? Have your say in the comments section below.

"He will give his manager no sleepless nights. Ever.

"You know when you put that head on your pillow that Declan Rice is out there and he will give you everything.

"He might play badly in some games, but he's going to give you his whole heart and that's all you can ask."
