Paul Scholes slams Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick's decision on Harry Maguire

Paul Scholes has slammed Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick for continuing to select Harry Maguire in his starting XI.

Despite coming under pressure for his performances this season, the £80m captain has been included in the United starting XI for the Champions League showdown with Atletico Madrid. Maguire partners Raphael Varane at centre-back with Victor Lindelof named on the bench.

Rangnick has made three changes from the Premier League victory over Tottenham with Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Elanga replacing Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford.

Maguire captains a team that also includes Diogo Dalot and Alex Telles. With a place in the last eight at stake, Sweden international Lindelof may feel aggrieved not to be included given his solid performances whenever he's been called upon.

Speaking to BT Sport, former United star turned pundit Scholes said: " The manager has shown faith in him to keep playing him considering the form he's been in. For me, the worry is what does this say about [Victor] Lindelof?

"When he's played, Lindelof has done okay. Nice and steady, not many mistakes. It seems everything Harry is doing has turned into an absolute disaster."

Fellow pundit Rio Ferdinand added: " I think Rangnick is giving him the chance to perform.
