'Prove them wrong' - Lee Bowyer sends Lyle Taylor message following Birmingham City transfer

Lyle Taylor has revealed what Birmingham City boss Lee Bowyer wants to see from the striker after signing from Nottingham Forest.

The 31-year-old has moved across the Midlands in a six-month loan deal that will see him finish the season with Blues after enduring a frustrating spell at the City Ground which saw him score just seven goals in 57 Championship appearances.

The Londoner will be hoping for a better return after reuniting with his former manager from his days at Charlton Athletic, where he scored 32 goals in 63 league appearances.

The pair were a winning combination for the Addicks as they won promotion from League One via the play-offs in 2019, with Taylor claiming the club's Player of the Year award that same season.

Ahead of the deal being completed, Taylor divulged the message Bowyer told him over the phone and what he is expecting of the player in the second half of the season at Birmingham City.

"I know Bow very well from my time at Charlton," Taylor told the club's official website.

"He called me when I was on my way here and he said 'I just want you to come in, get your head down, work hard and prove people wrong'. And that is pretty much all I've done my whole career so I look forward to being able to continue that."

He added: "[The deal] has taken a bit longer than I suppose I would have liked, but that's the way of the footballing world at the moment. I'm glad it's done now and I can't wait to start playing some games."

Taylor brings with him a wealth of experience derived from over 500 senior games in the Football League, non-league football, Scotland and internationally with Montserrat, which he laughed about during his first interview at the club when it was pointed out to him.
