Lee Bowyer reveals defender set back as Birmingham City man apologises to fans
Welcome to BirminghamLive's coverage of all things Birmingham City on
Lee Bowyer says Marc Roberts’ hamstring problem is ‘not great’.
The Birmingham City centre back has missed the last two matches after complaining of tightness last Monday.
He was left out of the defeat to Bournemouth two days later and was absent from Saturday’s emphatic 3-0 win over Luton Town.
It looks as though he is set for a second spell on the sidelines after also having suffered a hamstring strain before Christmas.
George Friend is two weeks through his four-week prognosis, although Teden Mengi dismissed any concern about his fitness with 90 minutes and a solid display against the Hatters.
Bowyer declined to give further information about either Roberts’ or Scott Hogan’s calf injury - with the striker picking up his knock last Wednesday.
Troy Deeney has returned to training, while Taylor Richards has been working outside with the medical staff and there is better news about Tahith Chong.
Birmingham City added one permanent player to their squad in the January transfer window when Juninho Bacuna arrived from Rangers.
Four joined Blues last summer, although while Ryan Woods, Jordan Graham and Troy Deeney remain, Chuks Aneke has already departed.
Technical director Craig Gardner is working with head coach Lee Bowyer to develop a squad that has struggled both stylistically and in results for the last few years.
And there’s more housekeeping to tend to in the summer.
Here’s a breakdown of how long each player has left on their current contracts.

Jeremie Bela (one-year option)
Connal Trueman
