Pride Cymru 2024: Live updates as crowds march in colourful parade through Cardiff city centre

One of the most colourful days of the year in Cardiff has arrived - and this time it's a big one. 2024 marks the 25th official Pride event to be held in the Welsh capital to celebrate our brilliant LGBTQ+ community and its allies.

To mark the occasion, crowds will march in the annual parade through the city centre from 11am - you can find the full route and more information about the day here. From there the party will continue in Cardiff Castle where a full-line up of performances and music including the Vengaboys and local talent including Miss Kitty, Polly Amarous and many more will take to the stage.

Starting off as Mardi Gras in 1999, and now known as Pride Cymru, today is a day for both celebration and protest - giving people in Wales a chance for everyone to "celebrate our common humanity, celebrate LGBTQ+ culture and give people the chance to know more about the community".

But it's also about a demand for equality, and a chance for everyone in the LGBTQ+ community to have their voice heard about the growing issues people are facing. You can read more about why Pride is more important now than ever here.
