Potential transfer boost for Bristol City emerges as club “unlikely” to recruit target

outfit Hull City are unlikely to bring in Derby County centre-back Curtis Davies this summer despite holding talks with the experienced defender, according to Hull Live.

The 37-year-old was a crucial figure for the Rams last term, playing in all 46 league games and proving to be a solid player alongside the likes of Phil Jagielka, Richard Stearman and Eiran Cashin at the heart of their defence.

Their poor form towards the end of the season cost them the opportunity to pull off a remarkable escape after being deducted 21 points – but Davies is one of many Derby players who can hold their head up high after their efforts.

They were even lucky to retain him for the 2021/22 season with their transfer embargo meaning they were unable to tie him down to a new contract until August last year, with the ex-Hull defender remaining loyal to the cause at Pride Park despite uncertainty surrounding his future.

He finds himself in a similar situation this summer with Chris Kirchner’s takeover of the club looking set to collapse – and with this – Wayne Rooney’s side are unable to offer him fresh terms at this stage.

Bristol City and Hull were thought to be monitoring his situation with the opportunity to lure him away from the East Midlands, though Hull Live are now reporting that the Tigers are unlikely to secure his signature with the veteran “expected” to stay at his current club.

That could change with this morning’s developments at Derby though, potentially enabling Nigel Pearson’s side to steal a march on their EFL rivals and swoop to secure the central defender’s signature. At this stage, it’s currently unclear whether officials at the MKM Stadium will re-engage in negotiations for their former favourite.
