“I’ll be the blocker” – Nigel Pearson spells out Bristol City transfer plan for what remains of summer

Nigel Pearson has stated that he will be looking to add “maybe two or three players” ahead of the start of the new campaign at Bristol City, in conversation with Bristol Live.

The Robins boss did indicate that outgoings could change the complexion, following strong early business from Bristol City, with the additions of Mark Sykes, Kal Naismith and Kane Wilson. 

With Antoine Semenyo, Alex Scott and Han-Noah Massengo all likely to continue attracting interest from the higher divisions, it remains to be seen exactly how much business will be done. 

Speaking to Bristol Live about his current summer transfer plans, Pearson said: “To a certain extent it will be about that (outgoings) but maybe two or three players.

“The financial aspects of it as well, may dictate it. I don’t want to paint a picture that we’re in financial difficulties. What we have to do is manage our situation with a realistic and sensible touch, and that’s the bottom line.

“I’ll be the blocker, more often than not, than the hierarchy, in terms of whether we do deals or not. Because if deals become too expensive, I’ll just say no, we’re not doing it.

“Because I don’t want to go down that route again, I would like us to have an element of equality amongst the squad but, of course, I never begrudge people earning good money, but we have to have a slightly different approach to what we’ve had in the past, for lots of different reasons.”

The verdict 

Taking a strict approach when it comes to not testing their finances, it is certainly sensible thinking from Pearson who has already displayed that quality can be added without stretching budgets.
