Potential Leeds United and Sheffield United transfer blow emerges on 24 y/o

Championship outfit Coventry City are in a strong position to sign centre-back Jake Clarke-Salter despite interest from other sides in his signature, as per Coventry Live.

The 24-year-old spent last season at the Coventry Building Society Arena and though his spell was partly disrupted by injuries, being prevented from making more than 29 league appearances for the Sky Blues because of that, he shone when he was fit and available.

With this, Mark Robins’ side were thought to be interested in pursuing a permanent move for the former England youth international – but on the condition parent club Chelsea allowed him to leave on the expiration of his deal at Stamford Bridge this summer.

The Blues had the chance to trigger a 12-month extension on his contract in the English capital – but have reportedly decided against activating this option and this is a big boost for the Sky Blues in their quest to land the defender.

However, their hopes looked set to be dashed with Premier League side Leeds, Eredivisie outfit PSV and league rivals Sheffield United all believed to be monitoring the 24-year-old’s situation ahead of a potential approach this summer.

Despite this, the Sky Blues remain in a good position to bring him according to Coventry Live, a big boost for the second-tier side who will be desperate to get this free transfer over the line with Robins set to be working within a limited budget again this summer.
