Portimao Moto3 test: Suzuki shines again on Sunday

Leopard Racing locked out the times on the second day of Moto3 testing as Dennis Foggia joined Tatsuki Suzuki at the top of the Portimao standings.

Suzuki stole the limelight from his teammate in the dying seconds with a late 1’47.390 to close the afternoon in charge for the second day in succession at the Algarve International Circuit, with Rivacold Snipers’ Andrea Migno taking third.

Sterilgarda Husqvarna’s John McPhee came out in fine style as Sunday’s final action wound up, taking charge with a 1’48.109 lap on his tenth lap of the closing 70 minutes.

Just 0.003s separated Sergio Garcia from the Scot in the opening stages with Foggia straight up to speed in third. It was an impressive start for the Leopard rider after illness prevented him taking to the track on Saturday, with the Italian also sitting out of the morning running but heading the times in the second day’s second session.

Migno and Snipers teammate Alberto Surra made it an all-Italian affair as they rounded out the top five midway through with Ayumu Sasaki heading yesterday’s front runner less than half a second from McPhee’s target.

As the clock counted down the times began to tumble as Foggia hit the front thanks to a 1’47.409, Migno and CFMoto PruestelGP’s Carlos Tatay followed suit with Suzuki dropping McPhee down to fifth before the Japanese rider improved overall in the final seconds.

VisionTrack’s Scott Ogden continued to shine in the lightweight class having run top ten in the morning outing before improving to sixth on take two. The Brit completed Sunday’s action 12th overall and a second off the outright pace while teammate Josh Whatley improved his personal best by two seconds across the day.
