Fraser shines again, Schar on form: Newcastle United 2-0 Brighton half-time ratings
Newcastle United are firmly in control of their Premier League clash with Brighton, leading 2-0 at the break. The Magpies survived a few nervy early moments but roared into the lead with two quickfire goals.
Firslly Ryan Fraser was on hand to steer the ball home after Chris Wood had put Jacob Murphy through, and his shot cannoned off the woodwork. Then Fraser turned provider, as his pinpoint free-kick was headed home by Fabian Schar as the Magpies took control.
Dan Burn did well to block a Brighton effort before Martin Dubravka had to be alert to deny Danny Welbeck on the break. At the other end, Burn went close from a deep Matt Targett header. Moment later Murphy pounced on a Lewis Dunk error but his shot was straight at the keeper.
Here's how Lee Ryder has rated the Newcastle United player so far.
On hand to make a fine save from Welbeck and has marshalled his defence well.
Another comfortable display. Dealing with Cucurella's overlapping runs well.
Another player rediscovering his best form. Great header for the second goal.
Commanding everything at the back.
Gives the side such great balance. Suffered a bang to the shin just before half-time.
Looks like he's played midfield his whole career.
Steady enough but room for improvement.
Fine cross for the opener
Could have got in on the goalscoring act but hit the post but causing havoc with forward running
Missed one good chance after a mix up just before the break.
Deserves credit for the through ball that led to opener
A goal and assist. The lad is at the top of his game.
