Popular London steakhouse confirms location for new Manchester restaurant

Flat Iron, the hit steakhouse chain known for its 'affordable' steaks has confirmed the location of its new Manchester site. The new restaurant will open on Deansgate in early summer, it's been confirmed.

The chain, which has 12 restaurants in London, will be taking over the site formerly occupied by specialist outdoor clothing brand Blacks. The Grade II-listed building was also once home to the Royal London Friendly Society.

Priding itself on its delivering ''remarkable steak at an affordable price", the centrepiece of the menu is, as you might expect, is the Flat Iron steak taken from the featherblade, which is known for its flavour, tenderness and juiciness, and served alongside sides including beef dripping, chips, creamed spinach, truffle macaroni cheese and crispy bone marrow mash.

Founded by Charlie Carroll in 2012, the restaurant started life as a pop-up above a pub in East London. The chain now spans 12 sites in London, and in 2023 it expanded to sites in Cambridge and Leeds.

The interiors of the two-storey restaurant have been remodelled by architects Macaulay Sinclair with the goal to uncover and display as much of the original building fabric as possible, highlighting its heritage and celebrating the architectural features. Existing plasterwork and cornicing have been exposed and paired with the original timber flooring, while original glazed brick walls have been exposed, riveted steel columns revealed, and original parquet flooring restored.
