Police probe underway after huge fire rips though derelict club

A police investigation is underway after a blaze broke out at a former club in north Manchester.

The fire ripped through the former Vasa club on White Moss Road just before 8.30pm last night (April 30). Firefighters and police officers raced to the scene.

Greater Manchester Police said an investigation into the fire is now underway. The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service also confirmed this morning that firefighters were working to determine the cause of the blaze as part of the probe.

A police spokesperson added that no injuries were reported. No arrests have been made at this stage though officers are working 'to establish the full circumstances'.

In a statement issued this afternoon, a GMP spokesperson said: "Greater Manchester Police (GMP) are investigating a fire that occurred at an abandoned building on White Moss Road, Blackley. Police were called to reports of the fire at 8.30pm on Wednesday 3 April 2024.

"They attended along with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue service, and a scene remains in place while officers carrying out their investigation. No injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made at this time however enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."

A cordon remains in place around the building. Last night, local residents were urged to keep their windows and doors closed due to the smoke.

Police cordoned off nearby roads as local were urged to avoid the area. A spokesperson for the fire service said this morning: "At around 8.20pm on Wednesday 3 March, fire crews were called to reports of a fire at a derelict commercial building on White Moss Road, Blackley.
