Police issue update after two stabbed as violence erupts on estate

Five people who were arrested after a double stabbing on an estate in Middleton have been released on bail, police have confirmed.

Two men were stabbed after violence erupted on a number of streets on the Langley estate on Friday afternoon (June 28). Their injuries were 'not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing'.

Four men - aged between 24 and 27 - and a 17-year-old boy were arrested on suspicious of assault after the incident unfolded on a number of streets, including Wood Street and Windermere Road. They have all since been bailed pending further enquiries, Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said today (July 1).

A cordon was put in place on the estate after the double stabbing on Friday afternoon. A number of police vehicles were pictured on the scene, including a crime scene investigation van.

Patrols were stepped up in the area as investigations were carried out. Police said the 'disturbance involved a number of people'.

In a statement issued on Saturday, a GMP spokesperson said: "At around 3pm yesterday (Friday 28 June 2024) our officers were called to reports of a disturbance involving a number of people on Windermere Road in Middleton. Following enquiries, it was established two men were stabbed and thankfully, following treatment, the extent of their injuries is not life-threatening or life-changing.

"Subsequently, a 17-year-old boy and four men aged between 24 and 27 have been arrested on suspicion of assault and remain in custody for questioning. Patrols by local officers are in place for the community as we continue to investigate."
