BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Amy Dowden says she's 'super excited' and issues update to fans

Amy Dowden has told fans she’s ‘super excited’ to start Strictly Come Dancing as she she issued an update on her flat move. The dancer is returning to the BBC One show following her cancer treatment.

The 33-year-old was forced out of last year’s series after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in May last year. She found a lump in her breast the day before going to the Maldives on honeymoon with her husband Ben Jones in April 2023.

Since her diagnosis of stage three breast cancer she has undergone a mastectomy, but also battled sepsis during her treatment. Amy was told there was no evidence of the disease earlier this year and last month it was announced she would be returning to the professional line up for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Preparing for the show, the Welsh professional dancer has moved into a flat in London. On Saturday she shared a video on her Instagram stories telling fans how it went - and how she feels about returning to Strictly.

She commented that it felt ‘very surreal’ but added that she was ‘super grateful’ to be back. Amy said: “So late last night I moved into my apartment ready for Strictly, really felt surreal to be finally here.

“It’s a big reflection on everything, but super exciting. I’ve got loads to unpack as I arrived late last night and then I realised I didn’t pack pillows.”

Ahead of Strictly rehearsals, Amy also hosted an event with Outlet Ten Discussions in London along with breast cancer awareness charity CoppaFeel!. She added: “I’m working today and tomorrow before starting Strictly on Monday. Just super happy, super grateful, super exciting.”
