Police issue update after 'knife attack' in Cargo in Manchester

An early hours attack against a 20-year-old man over the weekend involved a 'knife' in a nightclub, the Manchester Evening News understands. Officers found the man injured on Withy Grove, in the city centre, following reports of an assault at 1.50am on Saturday (February 24).

It's understood the incident took place inside the Cargo nightclub, at the Printworks, and involved a bladed article. Police arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of a section 18 assault on Saturday.

In an update issued today (Monday), Greater Manchester Police confirmed he has since been bailed pending further enquiries. Officers previously described the attack as 'targeted'.

The victim was rushed to hospital with serious injuries following the attack. The M.E.N. has made repeated attempts to contact Cargo for comment.

Detective Inspector Natalie McDonald said on Saturday: "This shocking attack left a young man seriously injured and our officers have moved quickly to find the suspect. We are still working to establish the full circumstances but it is believed to have been a targeted attack with no wider risk to the public.

"We are now appealing to anyone with information or footage related to this incident - including CCTV, mobile or dashcam - to make a report to police to aid our enquiries."
