Police issue update after huge brawl breaks out following late-night fireworks

Police have an issued an update after two men were rushed to hospital after violence erupted on the streets of Bolton.

Locals described scenes of chaos erupting in the Halliwell Road area following a 'dispute over fireworks' at 1am on Monday morning (September 11).

Greater Manchester Police initially received calls about fireworks being set off, before being alerted to fights breaking out in the area. Two men were taken to hospital after suffering serious injuries.

Officers arrested four men - aged 25, 27, 31 and 35 - on suspicion of violent disorder. In an update issued this afternoon (Wednesday), GMP confirmed all four had been bailed pending further enquiries.

Residents described being woken up by fireworks before a large-scale brawl in the early hours of Monday morning. One said: "I could hear the fireworks from my house.

"They were setting them off on a little patch of grass. "Tenants have come out to complain and obviously all hell has broken loose. It’s mad innit."

GMP is continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward. Detective Inspector Stuart Woodhead, of GMP's Bolton division, said on Monday: "What appeared to start as anti-social behaviour in relation to fireworks, quickly descended into large-scale violent disorder, which is completely unacceptable on the streets of Bolton.

"We would be interested in speaking with anyone who may have witnessed the incident and would ask that they contact us via 101, the CID office directly on 0161 85 65757 or via the Live Chat function on our website, www.gmp.police.uk. Information can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity - Crimestoppers - on 0800 555
