Police incident in Port Talbot closes road in both directions - updates

Police closed a route both ways following a report of a serious assault near Aberavon Beach. South Wales Police said in a statement at 8.09pm on Saturday: "We are at the scene of a police incident on Victoria Road and Princess Margaret Way, Port Talbot.

"The road is currently closed in both directions between Elfed Avenue and Jersey Quay. It is expected to remain closed for some time."

Shortly after the route reopened at around 9.30pm, a force spokesperson told WalesOnline: "Police were called to Victoria Road, Sandfields, Port Talbot, at 6.45pm tonight to a report of a serious assault. One man has been taken to hospital and one man has been arrested in connection with the incident. The road has now reopened and enquiries are ongoing."
